PALOMAR DISTRICT TEMPORARILY CLOSES CAMPGROUND

RAMONA, CA.....On Thursday, April 1, 1999, the Palomar Ranger District of the Cleveland National Forest temporarily closed Indian Flats Campground and the surrounding campground area to accommodate the breeding season of the federally listed endangered species, arroyo toad. Indian Flats is a remote campground located off highway 79 north of Warner Springs landing field. The area will be closed to all visitor use.

"We are taking this action to afford the species the protection they need during their breeding season, which lasts from approximately April 1 to July 1 ; however, if there is a delay in the breeding season, the closure will need to be extended a few weeks," explained Palomar District Ranger Grace Terrazas. "Protection of habitat and native plant and animal species is a major concern and an important part of the Forest Service mission," she continued.
